Artist's Statement
"The Mystery of Clarity"
My sculptures are the result of "drawing with space".
These works are comprised of various forms, intervals and materials representing abstract ideas even though the imagery of some might be called ‘representational'. Each is meant to be interpreted in the viewer's own imagination via the descriptive language of their own emotions.
As the Arts illuminate, imitate and interpret reality through a unique vocabulary of symbols, my sculptures are a synthesis that attempts to establish a new unity by reorganizing perceptions into interlocking pieces of reality that form modern equivalents of transcendent truths and classic concepts.
The formula for visual power I employ in my works I describe as ‘the synthesis of strength and gentility'.
The universal language of visual imagery, like music and all branches of the Arts, speaks to the place within each of us where we are recognizable, familiar and accessible to each other through the common denominator of our shared emotions. This ‘state' effortlessly transcends national and cultural borders if we are open to it and allow it to happen. The truth of a fully realized work of Art establishes this ground of shared experience. The opposition to this is an emphasis that is geared towards reinforcing that which separates and sets us apart. I would characterize that as an excluding elitism engendered by acts of selfishness.
Art offers its audience in the form of a challenge the opportunity to experience difference and change as an exhilarating and surprising way to poll their position in the larger community of humankind through the sensibilities of their own humanity.
Through formal plastic means my sculptures establish a place where it is possible to examine our perceptions of this shared experience which has the ability to unite us and is what I describe as an investigation into the Mystery of Clarity.
