getting started

Filed under: Uncategorized — Al @ 8:34 pm

The tutorial below this post should be enough to get you going. Read that first and give it a go. The rest of this post you can look into after going through the basics listed below.

about “pages”

You can edit the “pages” - linked above, by clicking “manage,” then “pages” - pages differ from posts in that they are “static” - they have a fixed “uri,” or web address whereas “posts” are generated dynamically (with relative, sequential uri’s).

Don’t worry about all that - just play around with the “write post and/or page, publish - then go back and “manage, edit” - and learn how the “quicktags” work. Basically its a process of getting comfortable in this new word processing environment.

how to

  • click “login” in right column (under”admin”)
  • enter “admin” as user name
  • enter “oh+al=5″ as password
  • you’ll arrive on the dashboard
  • click “write” on top of dashboard page (which contains all the latest news from the wordpress blogging community)
  • under Write Post, enter a title for your entry
  • type away in the big gray box, when finished, choose a category the post should go in (on immediate right), then click “Publish” just below
  • click “view site” on top of the page - your article should appear front and center
  • use your back button to return to the dashboard
  • you’ll then be on the Manage Posts page - you can click “edit” to modify posts
  • logout when you’re finished

That’s the basic procedure; go through it a few times to see how simple it is despite first impressions. All blue text in the “write post” area is linked to help articles that explain how that area works. Check out the “Quicktags” to see how to add formatting to your posts.
